Define the changes before discussing production

A packaging change, a logo on the shoe and a newly developed design are different requests. List the proposed changes separately: upper and lining, sole construction, colors, fastening, logo location, labels and packaging. Include reference images and explain which features matter most. Feasibility and any tooling or development work need to be checked before the specification is agreed.

Put sizing in the brief

Give your target size range and the sizing system used in your market. Where available, include a size chart, relevant measurements and notes from an existing fit sample. Ask which measurements will be used for sample assessment. Appearance approval alone does not establish that a shoe meets your fit requirements.

Agree the sample and inspection plan

Discuss sample scope, charges, revision arrangements and timing before development starts. Use the sample review to record the agreed materials, color, branding, construction and measurements. Include the inspection criteria you want considered for the order. If you require test reports, identify the destination and exact product requirements early; documents must apply to the relevant product and materials.

Plan the order around the specification

Minimum order quantities are discussed by style. Share your estimated quantity by style, color and size, together with your preferred launch date. Ask for the development schedule and proposed dispatch timing once the project requirements have been reviewed. Freight transit and customs clearance are separate from production and dispatch.
