What UK and EU rules mean for kids shoes

Does a kids shoe need a UKCA or CE mark? Usually not. UKCA and CE marking apply to products covered by specific rules, such as toys or protective (safety) footwear. Ordinary children's shoes are covered by:

• Chemical restrictions — REACH in the EU and UK REACH in Great Britain. Buyers usually test for chromium VI in leather, azo dyes, PAHs in rubber and plastic parts, phthalates and other restricted substances.
• Footwear materials labelling — the main material of the upper, the lining and sock, and the outer sole, shown by words or pictograms.
• General product safety — the EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) requires an EU-based responsible economic operator and traceability details such as a batch number and the manufacturer's name and address. The UK has its own general product safety rules.

How we support you

• Our shoes are made to international safety requirements, and test reports are available.
• We arrange REACH or UK REACH testing with laboratories such as SGS for your approved product.
• We print the materials labelling and traceability details you specify (batch, your brand and EU or UK contact) on the shoe, label or box.
• We provide the full materials list for every component.

UK and EU sizing

We make new lasts to EU sizing (for example 20–35) and confirm UK sizes by foot length; the mould fee is quoted separately.

Sampling and lead times

• Samples in 10 days to 1 month, depending on the complexity of the style. We revise until you are happy.
• In-stock styles ship within 2 days.
• Bulk production is scheduled to your quantity and launch date as soon as the sample is approved.

Quality control

Our dedicated QC team checks every order at four stages:

1. Incoming materials — uppers, linings, soles and trims checked against the approved sample before cutting.
2. In-process patrols — inspectors walk the cutting, stitching and lasting lines throughout production.
3. 100% finished inspection — every pair checked for stitching, bonding, symmetry, sizing and finish.
4. Pre-shipment AQL inspection — random sampling to AQL standards before packing out.

Factory visits and audits are welcome, and so is your own or a third-party inspector.

Branding and packaging

Custom shoeboxes, hangtags, barcodes, labels and carton marks — all made to your brand guidelines.

How private label works

1. Brief — send a reference shoe, photos, a drawing or a tech pack, plus target market, size range, colors, quantity and logo artwork.
2. Quotation — we review materials, construction and branding and quote your project.
3. Sampling — in 10 days to 1 month; we revise until you approve. New lasts in EU or US sizing are available (mould fee quoted separately).
4. Testing — third-party testing for your market where required.
5. Production and QC — bulk production with our four-stage quality control.
6. Packing and shipping — in your custom shoeboxes, hangtags and barcodes.
